“MUERTE de LA BANDERA DE LA LIBERTAD y EL SUEÑO DE SAN MARTIN”
This is a very special painting, prepared to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Peru’s Independence from Spain.
It evokes the end of the dream of the Libertador San Martin in Abraham Valdelomar’s narrative, where San Martin refers to the Peruvian flag, which he designed based on the Parihuanas (typical Peruvian flamingos) flying north, as “La Bandera de la Libertad” or “The Flag of Freedom”. It is a big irony 200 years later, where Peruvians live with the sensation of lack of freedom and with a completely polarized country, enclosed by the pandemic and with an uncertain future.
I used a mixed technique, it is made with photographic collage stamps and painted with digital brushes.
“MUERTE de LA BANDERA DE LA LIBERTAD y EL SUEÑO DE SAN MARTIN” is 100 cm x 100 cm, 1/1 + A/C
